I believe we have everything we need to have a full life, but we are humans and we connect with the energy or vibration of other souls, it can be a woman, it can be a man, and if you both choose from freedom be together it is all about choices in life.
The problem come when you think you need someone in your life to complete you, to make you happier, making dependency relationships. However, self realized people chose from feeedom if they want to share their life with a soulmate or spiritual partner.
Maybe is the polarity, the endless cycle of giving and receiving, the mirror that you find in your partner that can teach you a lot about yourself, I personally believe It is a great opportunity for exponential growth.
